The evening is very flexible. Life is busy! We meet between 6pm and 8pm every Thursday, but people are welcome to arrive and leave as they need to. We help people who arrive late to find a table and feel comfortable.
It’s not a formal class. There is no registration, no attendance sheet and no homework! It is a very comfortable and relaxed setting. This is a great chance to meet new people, learn more about the community and practice English conversation at the same time.
All levels are welcome. We do not separate learners into language levels, but we try to have one-on-one support for beginners.
We meet in small groups. 35 or more people meet each week, but we keep table groups small so everyone gets a chance to talk. Each table has at least one native English speaker.
New conversation questions each week. Groups decide together if they want to use the questions or if they want to start their own conversation.
Free coffee and tea! Enjoy some coffee and tea while you meet other people in the KW community.
We enjoy special events. Every 3 or 4 months we have a special event, such as a pot luck dinner or a talent show.
We meet year round. You can practice your English conversation skills in the winter, spring, summer and fall.
Children are welcome. We do not have child care facilities, but we are child-friendly. Parents and guardians are welcome to bring their children along.
Speak English Café is turning 10 years old! Speak English Café will celebrate 10 years of friendly conversation in November 2012. It is hosted by The Working Centre and the Mennonite Coalition for Refugee Support.
