Don’t forget to keep in touch with the network you have developed. Go back from time to time – perhaps every two or three months to remind people in your network that you would like them to keep you in mind, and to refresh their knowledge of your job goal. Help them to remember you and remind them that you are still hoping they will connect you with any opportunities or suggestions.
If you are not sure how to do this, work with an Employment Counsellor to craft some key messages. Your method and tone of communication is important. One employer told us that people should stay in touch – but not too often! It is often difficult to determine how often to contact a potential employer – asking an Employment Counsellor for their advice can help you to make good decisions that turns a contact into a potential employer.
