Resumes are good! They're great! We like resumes. But sometimes we put too much faith in the resume - imagining that it is out in the world doing the legwork and forging pathways to ideal employers and jobs for us.
But resumes are poor networking tools by themselves. As dedicated job searchers, we need to make the extra effort to spark employers, sharing our skills and passions with our future bosses and co-workers in creative ways and spaces. At The Working Centre we talk consistently about 'framing'; in this context, we're asking 'how do we frame our good work to employers so that they can actively engage with the information we're sharing?'. With this thought in mind, we need to move beyond the resume, even as we continue to use the resume to our advantage.
