We are excited to host a variety of learning events this March focused on building sustainable, regenerative ways of life in response to the climate emergency. Events this month are:
I] The Yes Men Are Revolting - Documentary Film at KPL
“For 20 years, the Yes Men have staged outrageous hoaxes to hijack public dialogue about the issues of the day. In their third cinematic outing, they prepare to take on their biggest challenge yet: climate change.” (From Film’s Description)
Join us for the documentary The Yes Men Are Revolting. See the trailer here. Documentary will be hosted on Monday, March 13th, at 7pm at Kitchener Public Library - Central Branch.
II] Coping with Climate Change Workshop
Climate Change can be difficult to deal with: personally, emotionally, and existentially. This workshop engages on all these levels in community. We explore four themes: Gratitude, Honouring our pain for the World, Seeing with New Eyes, & Going Forth. The next event will be Thursday, March 16th, 7pm at Queen St Commons. Register on eventbrite.
III] A Four Day Week? An After the Alarm policy event
Working four days a week not only would make us happier - it will also help us solve the climate crisis.
Around the world the idea of a four day work week is catching fire. Politicians are studying it, pundits are talking about it, and the public are paying attention. The four day work week is good for us as people. But it’s also good for the planet: some studies suggest a four day work week could lead to a 25% reduction in our carbon footprints!
Societies have sounded the alarm. Governments have declared we are in a climate emergency. But are we acting like it? And what would it look like if we are actually acting like it’s an emergency?
Our first event will be held on Thursday, March 30th, 7pm at the Queen St Commons. Please RSVP on Eventbrite. Space is limited. These events will be held in partnership with 50x30WR, Divest Waterloo, and FaithClimateJustice.
IV] A Good War? Mobilizing Canada for the Climate Emergency - Book Club
This spring we are organizing book clubs to read and discuss Seth Klein’s book A Good War: Mobilizing Canada for the Climate Emergency.
Dates and times for the reading group will be determined based on availability of those interesting. Depending on interest, multiple reading groups may be organized. Reading groups will begin by the end of April. Please RSVP by Thursday, April 6th.
