Are you someone who is attracted to the philosophy and action of The Working Centre?
There are a variety of Night Shift Supportive Housing / Emergency Shelter Worker positions available;
- University Avenue Housing is an innovative interim housing partnership between The Working Centre and the Region of Waterloo. We invited people into this dorm style housing situation, many of whom have not lived in housing or shelter for a number of years. We opened the dorms over a year ago and this is an ongoing experiment that has been complex, but very successful. Our night shifts are from 11:30pm-7:30am.
- The Temporary St. Andrew’s Emergency Shelter is a partnership between St. Andrew’s Church, The Working Centre and the Region of Waterloo, responding to the urgent need for people to find indoor space this winter from November 2021-April 2022. The Shelter supports around 50 people per night, in a congregate setting. Our shifts are from 6pm-2am and 1am-9am.
Housing and Shelter Workers respond to the support needs of people who are street involved, often dealing with the complexities of substance use, lack of affordable housing, mental health issues, and challenges navigating complex systems. The work is highly relational, always challenging and changing, and is based on the needs of the individuals we support.
Housing and Shelter Workers are responsive, truly enjoy being with people, have a good understanding of collaboration and team work, and are not set on following standard routines in their work. The position requires taking a trauma informed approach, and working from a philosophy of harm reduction.
The Working Centre is a dynamic and highly responsive organization. Co-workers come from all walks of life, a variety of cultural backgrounds, and an eclectic mix of age groups. We are constantly learning and are challenged in our work. We offer many flexible yet anchored work roles and a work environment that allows you to do meaningful, respectful and good work.
Before applying, take a look at this link to information about our salary policy https://www.theworkingcentre.org/sites/default/files/salary-policy.pdf.
